On Friday, the club got the heartbreaking news that Paul Egan has passed away. Paul contributed hugely to the club and has been a key part of the club for the last 20 years. He was always looking at ways to improve equipment, helping with repairs and was always there to help when needed. Paul was truly gifted with his hands and mind and was an expert in working with all materials. He’s done countless repairs and maintenance over the years, he built the new gates on the boathouse, he repaired the one design in 2023 and without that we wouldn’t have won the All Ireland!

After the boat got damaged he did a full rebuild last year giving months of his time to complete it. This work was key to allowing us to bring underage crews back to the shore. He loved seeing his daughter Mairead in the crew that relaunched the boat last year, and that crew went on to win the Kerry Championships. Paul didn’t want any credit or attention for the work. He preferred to stay in the background, so not many people realise the amount of work he was doing for the club, always with good humour and a smile.

Fossa Rowing Club has lost a great friend and our deepest sympathies go to Paul's wife Margaret, sons Conor, Diarmuid and daughter Mairead. He will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace.
